For as long as I can remember, I have loved books. My earliest memories take me back to childhood afternoons when my great-grandmother, Melvina “Mama” Marshall, welcomed me home from primary school with folktales of Brer Bookie and Brer Rabbi. Those stories sparked my imagination and planted the first seeds of my love for storytelling.
In high school, I discovered poetry. Writing became the outlet I needed as a teenager navigating life’s challenges. From The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew to Kaffir Boy and beyond, stories continued to shape my path. As an educator, I have spent many years unearthing my students’ creativity through various forms of literature. Now my journey has allowed me to work closely with exceptional students and experience the deep rewards of inclusive learning.

The word “Nabi” means spokesperson, messenger, or one who delivers purposeful messages. At Nabi Picture Books, we create meaningful, inspirational stories rooted in childhood themes. We also help young readers find their voices, celebrate imagination, and grow into thoughtful, courageous storytellers who continue cultural traditions.
